羅冠聰 Nathan Law

Nathan Law (Chinese: 羅冠聰, mixed name: Nathan Law Kwun-chung; born 13 July 1993) is a politician and activist in Hong Kong. As a former student leader, he has been chairman of the Representative Council of the Lingnan University Students' Union (LUSU), acting president of the LUSU, and secretary-general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS). He was one of the student leaders during the 79-day Umbrella Movement in 2014. He is the founding and former chairman of Demosistō, a new political party derived from the 2014 protests.

On 4 September 2016, at the age of 23, Law was elected to serve as a legislator for Hong Kong Island, making him the youngest lawmaker in the history of the Legislative Council of Hong Kong. Over his controversial oath-taking at the Legislative Council inaugural meeting, his office was challenged by the Hong Kong Government which resulted in his disqualification from the Legislative Council on 14 July 2017.^[1]

周庭（英語：Agnes Ting Chow，1996年12月3日－），香港自決派青年社運人士，香港眾志前常委、前副秘書長。曾任學民思潮發言人，別號「學民女神」^[1]。周庭本為英國公民，是家人在她年幼時為她申請的，但她從未在英國定居^[2]。她在2017年宣布放棄該國籍以符合立法會地區直選參選人不得擁有外國籍的法定要求^[3]。

Demosistō (/ˌdɛməˈsɪstoʊ/; Chinese: 香港眾志)^[2] is a pro-democracy organisation advocating self-determination for Hong Kong initially established on 10 April 2016 as a political party. It is led by the former leaders of Scholarism, Joshua Wong and Agnes Chow, along with former secretary-general of the Hong Kong Federation of Students(HKFS) Nathan Law, and Deputy Secretary-General Chris Kwok Hei Yiu. Scholarism and the Hong Kong Federation of Students (HKFS) were the two student activist groups which played an instrumental role in the 79-day occupy protests known as the Umbrella Revolution in 2014.^[3] Secretary-general Joshua Wong is the leader of the organisation.

Demosistō advocates a referendum to determine Hong Kong's sovereignty with the goal of obtaining autonomy^[4]after 2047, when the One Country, Two Systems principle as promised in the Sino-British Joint Declaration and the Hong Kong Basic Law is supposed to expire. It won a seat in the 2016 Legislative Council election with its 23-year-old chairman Nathan Law becoming the youngest candidate ever to be elected.^[3] In 2017, Law was disqualified from the Legislative Council over the oath-taking controversy and was imprisoned with Joshua Wong for the storming into the Civic Square during the Umbrella Revolution.

The begins of the radicalization of the Hong Kong population.

The peaceful demonstrations that have regularly drawn hundreds of thousands of residents into the streets since the summer have included many older people, as well as plenty of residents from other segments of the population long assumed to be conservative or at least acquiescent, whether civil servants or business people.

This blocking of any path forward that would permit more self-determination under Chinese sovereignty – as promised when Britain handed Hong Kong back to the mainland in 1997 – has led to a marked radicalization of Hong Kong’s population this year, and created a revolt of the middle class.

Direct election of the city’s leaders.

Two decades ago, many scholars began predicting that as China’s creation of wealth continued to speed ahead, the country would cross a threshold.

Once a substantial new middle class had been created, they reasoned, politics would tip decisively in a more participatory, possibly even democratic, direction. Especially with the income gap widen in cities and housing woo.

Now, however, this long-expected revolt of the middle class has arrived – not from China itself, but from Hong Kong.
